It can be seen during Clocktower opening times, currently 10am to 6pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and 10am to 5pm on Saturdays.

The following (free) events connected to the exhibition have taken place:

  • Talk 1 – 5th July 2023 on Croydon Central Library Level 1
  • Talk 2 – Friday 18th August at 2.30 pm in the Activities Room (adjacent to the Research Room)
  • Talk 3 – Saturday 26th August at 2.30 pm in Croydon Central Library Level 1. This talk was repeated on Tuesday 19th September.

We are pleased to say that John Hickman and Carole Roberts were accompanied in talks 2 and 3 by John W. Brown of the Streatham Society, co-author of our 2020 Proceedings on Phipson.

  • Walk 1 – the first town centre walk of central Croydon to look at the locations of some Phipson paintings took place from 2.30 on Wednesday 9th August.  This tour was especially for slower walkers and less mobile friends of the Croydon community.  It travelled from the Clocktower to Cranmer Road (just beyond Croydon Minster).
  • Walk 2 – the following town walk was on Saturday 19th August, again meeting at the top of the Clocktower steps at 2.30 pm.  This walk divided at Cranmer Road with those interested venturing up Hill Terrace (formerly Dark Hill) and along Duppas Hill Terrace rejoining the track of those who walk along Old Town at Pump Pail via Duppas Hill Lane.

A lunchtime tour in connection with Open House will take place on Wednesday 13th September starting at 1pm in the Foyer, Croydon Clocktower.

A self-guided tour for those who wish to walk at their own pace alone, or with family and friends is available as is our 2020 Proceedings ‘Evacustes Phipson, His Life and Utopian Views and an Introduction to the Croydon Paintings’.

There are regular free guided tours of the Clocktower exhibition.

The exhibition will run to 27th September 2023.
