Sunday 14 August, two events: Coombe Conduit, and botany at Riddlesdown
For the weekend of 13 & 14 August, CNHSS offers plenty to do. A special opening and tour of one of Croydon’s best-loved landmarks, Shirley Windmill, takes place on the Saturday. It needs pre-booking, details for which are on the programme leaflet.
On the Sunday, one visit is to the 350-year old water system for Hampton Court: Coombe Conduit, Norton. Meet at Norbiton Station at 13:45, or at Coombe Conduit, Coombe Lane West, Kingston-upon-Thames, KT2 7HE at 14:00. Entry is free, and the visit will be led by Paul Rainey, with walking afterwards in Richmond Park.
The other event on the Sunday is closer to home, a botany walk on Riddlesdown, looking at the later wild flowers and butterflies of high summer, including seeking out Chalk Hill Blues butterflies. Meet at 14:00 in the car park on the Downs at the end of Riddlesdown Road, Purley. This is a joint event with the Surrey Wildlife Trust.
